But she's barely hanging on.
She's lost too much, become something she fears. The things she doesn't know about her past threaten to destroy her as she tries to learn how to navigate the new world she's created for herself.
Untangling the mysteries of her powers only reveals new dangers, more deadly than anything she could have imagined. Can she protect those she loves, those who have become her friends and family, from the nightmare of what she is?
And what will it take to truly break her?
Broken may have stolen a small piece of my soul. I read it in less than a day, because I simply could not put it down. Read on for my review!
Molly's journey through the soul-crushing despair of Nain's loss is beautifully captured and heartrendingly real. There were times when I hated her a little for the way she treated Brennan, but you know what? It was real. I loved that she struggled, that she didn't just jump from one bed to the next. I loved watching her be reborn from the flames of her loss. This book really defined Molly for me in a way I hadn't realized that the first book, Lost Girl, (read my review here) didn't.
In Lost Girl, I liked Brennan, but I didn't feel like I really got to know him. He was always a bit in the background--the steady grounding presence. In Broken, that grounding presence is brought to the forefront, and the dynamic between Molly and Brennan is a beautiful thing. I must admit, I'm more than a little in love with Brennan. Nain was hot, sure. And he had some of that macho, take-you-up-against-the-wall appeal. But Brennan? He's the one who will kiss you softly while leaving no doubt in your mind that you are claimed. *Swoon*
If the character dynamics weren't enough, Vanderlinden also does an amazing job of weaving mythology into the story and painting the Greek pantheon in a little different light--an almost human light that makes it easier to connect with them (but definitely not any harder to hate some of them).
If you want a book that will speak to your heart and leave you thirsting for more, read this one now!
